How we measure your speed
Every correctly typed word counts its letters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5, the length of an average word, and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count. Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct.
Fair rankings
Your score is not calculated in your browser alone. When a test ends, our server checks what was typed and calculates the result itself, so scores in the rankings cannot simply be edited. Results that look impossible are held back from the rankings until they are reviewed.

Word lists
The normal test uses Fry's 200 instant words, a classic list of the most common English words. The top 1000 list is based on FrequencyWords by Hermit Dave (CC BY-SA 4.0), with names, slang and offensive words removed.
