Pashto Typing Test
Check how fast you can type in Pashto. The test shows 200 common Pashto words, such as په, او, چې and دا, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Pashto is spoken in Afghanistan and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in Pakistan. It is written right to left in an Arabic-based alphabet with extra letters such as ټ، ډ، ړ، ږ، ښ، ځ، څ and ګ.
Typing Pashto on your keyboard
Windows includes a Pashto keyboard, and Gboard and other phone keyboards offer Pashto as well. Urdu, Persian and Arabic keyboards are missing several Pashto letters, so use a Pashto layout.
On Windows 11, add Pashto under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- ښ and ش, ږ and ژ, as in ښه and ژبه.
- ګ (Pashto gaf) and گ (Urdu and Persian gaf).
- The different ye letters, such as ی، ې، ۍ and ي, as in سړی، ډېر، نجلۍ and شي.
Tips to type Pashto faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Pashto text.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I use an Urdu keyboard for Pashto?
- Not for every word: an Urdu layout has no ښ، ږ، ځ or ۍ, and its گ is a different character from Pashto ګ. Add the Pashto keyboard.
- Why do the words go from right to left?
- Pashto is written from right to left, so the words appear and are typed in that direction.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
