Albanian Typing Test
Test i shpejtësisë së shtypjes në shqip
Check how fast you can type in Albanian. The test shows 200 common Albanian words, such as dhe, për, një and nga, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Albanian is spoken in Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia and by a large diaspora. Its letter ë is one of the most frequent letters in the language, so typing it without slowing down makes a big difference to your speed.
Typing Albanian on your keyboard
The Albanian keyboard is a QWERTZ layout with its own keys for ë and ç, next to the letter keys on the right. On an English keyboard you can use the United States-International layout, but switching to the Albanian layout is faster if you type Albanian every day.
On Windows 11, add Albanian under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- ë and e are different letters: është, një and më all need ë.
- ç and c: çfarë and çdo start with ç.
- Digraphs such as dh, gj, nj, sh, th, xh and zh are typed as two letters.
Tips to type Albanian faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Albanian text.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I type ë without an Albanian keyboard?
- On Windows, the United States-International layout gives ë when you press " and then e. On a Mac, press Option + U and then e. The Albanian layout has a separate ë key, which is the fastest option.
- Does a missing ë make the word wrong?
- Yes. The test compares every letter, so nje instead of një counts as a wrong word, just as it would in correct written Albanian.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
