Greek Typing Test
Τεστ ταχύτητας πληκτρολόγησης στα ελληνικά
Check how fast you can type in Greek. The test shows 200 common Greek words, such as και, το, να and της, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Greek has been written in its own alphabet for almost 3,000 years. Modern Greek marks the stressed syllable with an accent (τόνος) on almost every word of more than one syllable.
Typing Greek on your keyboard
The Greek keyboard follows the English layout where letters sound alike: α on A, β on B, γ on G. The accent is a dead key on the semicolon key: press it, then the vowel, to type ά, έ, ή, ί, ό, ύ or ώ. The final sigma ς is on the W key.
On Windows 11, add Greek under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- The accent: είναι, πού and πότε need it; a word without it is wrong.
- ς at the end of a word and σ inside it: άνθρωπος, σπίτι.
- ο and ω, ι, η and υ sound alike but are different letters.
Tips to type Greek faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Greek text.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I type Greek accents?
- On the Greek layout, press the semicolon key (;) and then the vowel. For example ; then α gives ά.
- Where is the final sigma ς?
- On the W key of the Greek layout. Use it for σ at the end of a word.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
