Polish Typing Test
Test szybkości pisania po polsku
Check how fast you can type in Polish. The test shows 200 common Polish words, such as nie, się, jest and jak, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Polish adds nine letters with diacritics to the Latin alphabet, and they are frequent: ł, ś, ż and ę appear in many of the most common words.
Typing Polish on your keyboard
Almost everyone in Poland uses the Polish (Programmers) layout: a normal QWERTY keyboard where AltGr (right Alt) + a letter types its Polish version, such as AltGr + a for ą and AltGr + l for ł. AltGr + x types ź and AltGr + z types ż.
On Windows 11, add Polish under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- ż and ź: AltGr + z gives ż, AltGr + x gives ź.
- ó and u sound the same but are different letters: góra, który.
- ł, as in był, była and głowa.
Tips to type Polish faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Polish text.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I type Polish letters?
- With the Polish (Programmers) layout, hold the right Alt key (AltGr) and press the letter: ą, ć, ę, ł, ń, ó and ś are on a, c, e, l, n, o and s.
- Should I use the Polish (214) layout?
- Only if you learned on it. It is a QWERTZ typewriter layout and is rarely used; most Polish typists use Polish (Programmers).
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
