Hungarian Typing Test
Gépelési sebesség teszt magyarul
Check how fast you can type in Hungarian. The test shows 200 common Hungarian words, such as hogy, nem, egy and meg, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Hungarian has 14 vowels, and the difference between short and long vowels changes the meaning of a word. ő and ű, with a double acute accent, exist in no other major language.
Typing Hungarian on your keyboard
The Hungarian keyboard is QWERTZ, with ö, ü and ó on the number row and á, é, ő, ú and ű next to the letters. The 0 key types ö, so numbers are often typed on the number pad.
On Windows 11, add Hungarian under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- ő and ö, ű and ü are different letters: első, tűz.
- Long and short vowels change the word: kor and kór, tör and tőr.
- Digraphs such as gy, ny, sz and zs are typed as two letters.
Tips to type Hungarian faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Hungarian text.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I type ő and ű?
- The Hungarian layout has separate keys for them. Without it, they are hard to type, so add the Hungarian keyboard before taking the test.
- Does a missing accent make the word wrong?
- Yes. In Hungarian the accent is part of the letter, so the test counts it.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
