Danish Typing Test
Test af skrivehastighed på dansk
Check how fast you can type in Danish. The test shows 200 common Danish words, such as det, den, til and som, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Danish is spoken by about six million people in Denmark and is close to Norwegian and Swedish in writing. Its three extra letters, æ, ø and å, come at the end of the alphabet.
Typing Danish on your keyboard
The Danish keyboard has æ, ø and å on their own keys to the right of L and P. Danish and Norwegian keyboards look alike, but æ and ø are swapped.
On Windows 11, add Danish under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- ø and o: øje, dør and grøn need ø.
- å and a: på, år and gå need å.
- Writing aa instead of å, as in older texts, makes the word wrong.
Tips to type Danish faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Danish text.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I use a Norwegian keyboard for Danish?
- Yes, but æ and ø are swapped on the Norwegian layout, which can confuse your fingers. The Danish layout is best for Danish.
- Is å the same as aa?
- It used to be written aa, and some names still are, but modern Danish writes å. The test expects å.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
