Czech Typing Test
Test rychlosti psaní v češtině
Check how fast you can type in Czech. The test shows 200 common Czech words, such as jako, ale, jsem and jsi, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Czech uses háček (ˇ) and čárka (´) accents on many letters, and ř is a sound found in almost no other language. Fast Czech typists rely on the number row, where most accented letters live.
Typing Czech on your keyboard
On the Czech QWERTZ keyboard the number row types ě, š, č, ř, ž, ý, á, í and é. Numbers are typed with Shift or on the number pad. ů and ú have their own keys next to P and L.
On Windows 11, add Czech under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- ů (kroužek) and ú (čárka) are both long u: ů inside words like dům, ú at the start like úkol.
- ě, as in děti and město.
- Long vowels change the word: byt (flat) and být (to be).
Tips to type Czech faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Czech text.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I type numbers on a Czech keyboard?
- The number row types accented letters, so hold Shift for numbers or use the number pad.
- Does the test need háčky and čárky?
- Yes. A word without its accents counts as wrong, because in Czech they change the word.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
