Kurdish Typing Test
Check how fast you can type in Kurdish. The test shows 200 common Kurdish words, such as لە, بە, کە and ئەم, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
This test uses Sorani (Central Kurdish), which is written right to left in an Arabic-based alphabet with extra letters for Kurdish sounds, such as ڕ, ڵ, ۆ, ێ and ە. Unlike Arabic, Sorani writes every vowel.
Typing Kurdish on your keyboard
Windows includes a Central Kurdish keyboard, and phone keyboards such as Gboard offer Sorani too. An Arabic or Persian keyboard is missing several Kurdish letters, so use a Kurdish layout.
On Windows 11, add Kurdish under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- ە (the vowel e) and ه (h): هەموو uses both.
- ڕ (heavy r) and ر, ڵ (heavy l) and ل, as in ڕۆژ and دڵ.
- ێ and ی, ۆ and و, as in ئێمە and ئۆتۆمبێل.
Tips to type Kurdish faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Kurdish text.

Frequently asked questions
- Is the test in Sorani or Kurmanji?
- It is in Sorani (Central Kurdish), written in the Arabic-based alphabet. Kurmanji is usually written in the Latin alphabet.
- Can I use an Arabic or Persian keyboard?
- Not for every word: letters such as ڕ, ڵ, ێ and ۆ are missing. Add the Central Kurdish keyboard.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
