Korean Typing Test
한국어 타자 속도 테스트
Check how fast you can type in Korean. The test shows 200 common Korean words, such as 우리, 저희, 그들 and 당신, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Korean is written in Hangul, an alphabet created in the 15th century in which letters are grouped into syllable blocks. Because every key types one letter, Korean typists can reach very high speeds.
Typing Korean on your keyboard
The standard Korean layout is 2-set (Dubeolsik): consonants are on the left side of the keyboard and vowels on the right. Windows, macOS and phones all include it.
On Windows 11, add Korean under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Typing Korean syllables
On a Korean keyboard you type the letters (jamo) of each syllable and the input method builds the block for you: ㅎ + ㅏ + ㄴ becomes 한. The syllable counts once it is finished, so you can keep typing normally and press space after each word.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- Double consonants such as ㄲ, ㄸ, ㅃ, ㅆ and ㅉ are typed with Shift.
- Similar vowels: ㅐ and ㅔ, as in 새 and 네.
- Spacing: each word is separated by a space, as in normal Korean writing.
Tips to type Korean faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Korean text.

Frequently asked questions
- Why does my syllable change while I type?
- The input method builds each syllable block from the letters you type. A consonant can move to the next block when you type a vowel after it. The test only checks finished syllables.
- Can I use the 3-set (Sebeolsik) layout?
- Yes. Any layout that types Hangul works.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
