Armenian Typing Test
Check how fast you can type in Armenian. The test shows 200 common Armenian words, such as եմ, ես, են and ենք, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Armenian has its own alphabet of 38 letters, created by Mesrop Mashtots in the 5th century. The test uses Eastern Armenian, the standard language of Armenia.
Typing Armenian on your keyboard
Windows and macOS include several Armenian layouts. The phonetic layout places letters on English keys with a similar sound, which makes it easy to learn if you already type English. The Eastern Armenian layout follows the traditional typewriter arrangement.
On Windows 11, add Armenian under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- և is a single character ("and") with its own key on most Armenian layouts.
- ու is written with two letters, ո and ւ.
- Letters that look alike, such as ո and ռ, or ս and ն.
Tips to type Armenian faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Armenian text.

Frequently asked questions
- Which Armenian keyboard layout should I use?
- If you already type English, the phonetic layout is the quickest to learn. If you learned on a typewriter or at school with the traditional layout, stay with it. The test works with any layout that types Armenian letters.
- Is the test in Eastern or Western Armenian?
- It uses Eastern Armenian words. Most of the common words are spelled the same in both standards, but some forms differ.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
