Malaysian Typing Test
Ujian kelajuan menaip bahasa Melayu
Check how fast you can type in Malaysian. The test shows 200 common Malaysian words, such as yang, dan, ini and itu, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Malay (Bahasa Melayu) is the national language of Malaysia and Brunei and an official language of Singapore. It uses the Latin alphabet without accents.
Typing Malaysian on your keyboard
Malay is typed on the standard US QWERTY keyboard, so there is nothing to install. Words are built with prefixes and suffixes, so long words such as pekerjaan and perkataan are common.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- Reduplicated words use a hyphen: kadang-kadang, betul-betul.
- Malay and Indonesian spellings differ: wang (Malay) and uang (Indonesian), kereta and mobil.
- Prefixes change the word: buat and membuat.
Tips to type Malaysian faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Malaysian text.

Frequently asked questions
- Do I need a special keyboard for Malay?
- No. Malay is typed on the normal US keyboard.
- Is this the same as the Indonesian typing test?
- No. The languages are close, but many common words are spelled differently, so each has its own test and rankings.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
