Azerbaijani Typing Test
Azərbaycan dilində yazı sürəti testi
Check how fast you can type in Azerbaijani. The test shows 200 common Azerbaijani words, such as bir, ilə, üçün and mən, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Azerbaijani is the official language of Azerbaijan and is spoken by millions of people in Iran. Since 1991 Azerbaijan writes it in a Latin alphabet with the letters ə, ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş and ü.
Typing Azerbaijani on your keyboard
The Azerbaijani Latin keyboard looks like the Turkish Q layout, with an extra key for ə, the most common vowel in the language. On an English keyboard, these letters are hard to reach, so switching to the Azerbaijani layout is worth it.
On Windows 11, add Azerbaijani under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- ə (schwa) and e are different letters: və, də and mən all use ə.
- Dotless ı and dotted i: qız, qırmızı and işıq mix both.
- ğ, ş and ç need their own keys, as in dağ, şəhər and çox.
Tips to type Azerbaijani faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Azerbaijani text.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I type Azerbaijani on a Turkish keyboard?
- Almost: the Turkish Q layout has ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş and ü, but no ə. Add the Azerbaijani Latin layout so you can type ə with one key.
- Does the test use Cyrillic or Arabic script?
- It uses the Latin alphabet, which is the official script in Azerbaijan today.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
