Galician Typing Test
Proba de velocidade de escritura en galego
Check how fast you can type in Galician. The test shows 200 common Galician words, such as que, unha, non and por, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Galician is spoken in Galicia in north-west Spain and is close to Portuguese. It is written with the Spanish alphabet, including ñ, and acute accents.
Typing Galician on your keyboard
Galician is typed on the Spanish keyboard, which has an ñ key and a dead key for the acute accent: press ´ and then the vowel.
On Windows 11, add Galician under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- Accents change words: é (is) and e (and), está and esta.
- ñ in words like mañá and diñeiro.
- Galician spellings with x, such as xente and xogo, not the Spanish g or j.
Tips to type Galician faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Galician text.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I use a Spanish keyboard for Galician?
- Yes. The Spanish layout has every letter and accent Galician needs.
- Is the test in Galician or Portuguese?
- It is Galician, using the official spelling of the Royal Galician Academy.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
