Vietnamese Typing Test
Kiểm tra tốc độ gõ phím tiếng Việt
Check how fast you can type in Vietnamese. The test shows 200 common Vietnamese words, such as của, không, người and một, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Vietnamese uses the Latin alphabet with many diacritics: five tone marks and letters such as ă, â, đ, ê, ô, ơ and ư. Words are written as separate syllables, so the test shows one syllable at a time.
Typing Vietnamese on your keyboard
Vietnamese is typed with an input method. Telex uses letters for tones and marks (as gives á, dd gives đ) and VNI uses numbers. Windows 11 includes Vietnamese Telex and number-key input, and many people use Unikey.
On Windows 11, add Vietnamese under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- Tone marks: ma, má, mà, mả, mã and mạ are six different words.
- đ and d, as in đi and dạy.
- ơ and ư, as in người and những.
Tips to type Vietnamese faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Vietnamese text.

Frequently asked questions
- Telex or VNI: which is faster?
- Telex keeps your hands on the letters and is the most popular. VNI uses the number row. Both work in the test.
- Why does the test show single syllables?
- Vietnamese is written with a space between syllables, so a word like Việt Nam is typed as two parts.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
