Catalan Typing Test
Test de velocitat d'escriptura en català
Check how fast you can type in Catalan. The test shows 200 common Catalan words, such as que, per, una and les, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Catalan is spoken in Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearic Islands and Andorra, where it is the official language. Its accents tell you how a vowel sounds: è and ò are open, é and ó are closed.
Typing Catalan on your keyboard
Catalan is usually typed on the Spanish keyboard, which has a ç key and dead keys for the grave (`) and acute (´) accents: press the accent, then the vowel.
On Windows 11, add Catalan under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- Grave and acute accents are different: què and perquè use è, és and més use é.
- ç in words like França and cançó.
- Words with and without an accent can mean different things: és (is) and es, mà (hand) and ma.
Tips to type Catalan faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Catalan text.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I type Catalan on an English keyboard?
- Yes, with the United States-International layout on Windows or the Option key accents on a Mac, but the Spanish layout is faster for à, è and ç.
- Is the test in Catalan or Valencian?
- The words are standard Catalan. Almost all of the common words are spelled the same in Valencian.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
