Italian Typing Test
Test di velocità di battitura in italiano
Check how fast you can type in Italian. The test shows 200 common Italian words, such as che, per, non and una, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Italian is spoken in Italy, Switzerland and San Marino. Accents mostly appear on the last letter of a word, as in città, perché and più, and they are part of the spelling.
Typing Italian on your keyboard
The Italian keyboard has keys for à, è, ì, ò and ù, and é with Shift + è. Capital accented letters are hard to reach, but this test only uses lowercase words.
On Windows 11, add Italian under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- è (is) and e (and) are different words.
- perché and poiché end in é, not è.
- Double consonants change the meaning: casa and cassa, pala and palla.
Tips to type Italian faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Italian text.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I type é on an Italian keyboard?
- Press Shift + è. Plain è is on the same key without Shift.
- Does è count as e?
- No. In Italian è means "is" and e means "and", so the test treats them as different words.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
