Portuguese Typing Test
Teste de velocidade de digitação em português
Check how fast you can type in Portuguese. The test shows 200 common Portuguese words, such as que, para, com and não, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Portuguese is spoken in Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique and more. Accents and the tilde are part of the spelling: não, também and você all need them.
Typing Portuguese on your keyboard
Brazil uses the ABNT2 keyboard, and Portugal its own Portuguese layout. Both have a ç key and dead keys for accents: press ~ and then a for ã, or ´ and then e for é.
On Windows 11, add Portuguese under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- ã and õ, as in não and mãe.
- Accents change words: é (is) and e (and), está and esta, avó and avô.
- ç in words like coração and canção.
Tips to type Portuguese faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Portuguese text.

Frequently asked questions
- Is the test in Brazilian or European Portuguese?
- The common words in this test are spelled the same in both, following the current spelling agreement.
- Can I type Portuguese on an English keyboard?
- Yes, with the United States-International layout: ~ then a gives ã, ' then e gives é, and ' then c gives ç.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
