Ukrainian Typing Test

Check how fast you can type in Ukrainian. The test shows 200 common Ukrainian words, such as не, на, що and він, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Ukrainian is written in Cyrillic with its own letters: і, ї, є and ґ. It does not use the Russian ы, э or ъ.
Typing Ukrainian on your keyboard
The Ukrainian keyboard is based on the Russian ЙЦУКЕН layout, with і, ї and є in place of ы, ъ and э. On Windows, choose Ukrainian (Enhanced) to get ґ on its own key.
On Windows 11, add Ukrainian under Settings → Time & language → Language & region, then switch between keyboards with Windows + Space.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- і and и are different letters: і (and), він, ніж.
- ї and є, as in її and є.
- ґ in words like ґанок, typed with the Enhanced layout.
Tips to type Ukrainian faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Ukrainian text.

How the typing test works
- Click the input box and start typing the highlighted word. The timer starts with your first key.
- Press the space bar to move to the next word. Correct words turn green, wrong words turn red.
- When the time is up, your result appears. Press the restart button to try again with new words.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I use a Russian keyboard for Ukrainian?
- No. A Russian layout has no і, ї or є. Add the Ukrainian (Enhanced) layout.
- Are words with an apostrophe included?
- No. Words such as м'ясо are left out, so you only type letters.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
