Indonesian Typing Test
Tes kecepatan mengetik bahasa Indonesia
Check how fast you can type in Indonesian. The test shows 200 common Indonesian words, such as yang, dan, ini and itu, in random order. Type as many as you can in one minute and see your speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy and how many words you got right.
Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia) is the national language of Indonesia and is spoken by more than 200 million people. It uses the Latin alphabet without accents, so any English keyboard works.
Typing Indonesian on your keyboard
Indonesians type on the standard US QWERTY keyboard, so there is nothing to install. Many words use prefixes like me-, ber- and di-, which makes long words common.
Letters to watch
The test compares every character, so these often make a word wrong:
- Reduplicated words are written with a hyphen: laki-laki, benar-benar.
- Prefixes change the word: lihat and melihat, kerja and bekerja.
- Indonesian and Malay spellings differ: uang (Indonesian) and wang (Malay).
Tips to type Indonesian faster
- Keep your eyes on the screen: the current word turns red as soon as you make a mistake.
- Accuracy first. Wrong words do not count towards your WPM.
- Practise for a few minutes every day. The 200 words in this test appear in almost every Indonesian text.

Frequently asked questions
- Do I need a special keyboard for Indonesian?
- No. Indonesian is typed on the normal US keyboard.
- Is this the same as the Malay typing test?
- No. The two languages are close, but many common words are spelled differently, so each has its own test and rankings.
- How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
- Every correctly typed word counts its characters plus the space after it. That number is divided by 5 (the length of an average word) and by the test time in minutes. Wrong words do not count towards your speed.
- What is accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of all the keys you pressed that were correct. Typos you fixed with backspace still lower your accuracy, so it shows how cleanly you type.
